My Past, My Present, My Future

He’s my past, my present, my future
My heart leaps to know he’s mine
When those dark brown eyes search me gently
I know I’ve fallen this time

He’s the sunlight that breaks through the storm
On a sad and stormy day
He’s the wind that tickles me
And makes me laugh all those cares away

His smile causes butterflies to wake
From a deep and restful slumber
Bright beautiful wings take flight
And leave my soul in wonder

‘Just a dance’ was all he really wanted
Or so he says to this day
But one dance was all it really took
For him to steal my heart away

He’s my past, my present, my future
My heart leaps to know he’s mine
When those dark brown eyes search me gently
I know I’ve fallen this time

Promises made and trials endured
Handled with tender loving care
With children near and families dear
We’ve chosen the path that’s clear

Wedding whites will soon encircle us
That day is drawing ever near
Two hearts sealed for all eternity
Words of wisdom, we will hear

A new home, new family, new start
He’s the one who will lead the way
But close behind him I’ll stand steady
Never wavering, I will stay

He’s my past, my present, my future
My heart leaps to know he’s mine
When those dark brown eyes search me gently
I know I’ve fallen this time

Mother Nature

Mother Nature’s tears fall in torrents
Her sorrow shows in the blackest sky
Father Time has passed from this life today
And she’s mourning like she herself may die

The melancholy sound of her tears
Fall in a heavy, bitter-sweet rain
Her cries echo chillingly around me
As the thunder relates to her pain

The lightning mirrors her anger
Striking the earth here and there
Wrecking havoc and starting fires
She’s lost her mind and doesn’t care

Time is spinning wildly out of control
Racing on, then sulkily makes its way
And then suddenly it gives up and stops
The earth is slowly turning a deep gray

Someone please tell Mother Nature
That the Sun and Moon need to shine
Before the very beauty she has made
Passes away quickly, like Father time

Peace in a Shattered World

My emotions are shot
My battles been fought
Now I lay here begging for peace

For the time I borrowed
My heart filled with sorrow
As I watched the world waste away

My spirit feels freedom
A brand new horizon
Heaven is where I’ll call home

Love knows no bounds
Life’s journey is found
Peace from a shattered world

Stormy Waters

I started on a journey unknown
Hoping and praying I’d never look back
His friendship was all he had to give
For the traits he looked for I did greatly lack

My answer was clear like crystal glass
No trade winds were tossing me to and fro
Now the bitter breeze send hail all around me
And I wonder why I didn't just go

Tossed about on waves of emotion
Currents of fear threaten to pull me down
Heavy sea water vastly surrounds me
Tugging and pulling I fear I may drown

My heart is broken and battle worn
My emotions frayed like sails in a storm
I look in his eyes and see his fear
He’s fighting his battle and sheds a tear

Why today did the storm seem enraged
His love is my life raft floating away
Or is there still hope that I may live
If he'd just see my fear, put the storm at bay

Breaking Loose

I’m the girl who saw her future
And jumped to meet it
Took a chance
And found hope
Had faith
And found light
Trusted in my heart
And found love
Yeah I’m not the girl I could have been
But I’m the best that I am
In spite of men
I’m the girl who took a chance
And wound up on top
Yeah, look at me now
Not the girl I was back then
Walking through the halls
With very few friends
Holding tight to one belief
Yeah, that’s who I was then
I’m different now
My world has no bounds
No gravity
To suck me down
I’ve got the whole world
To get lost in
Find the peace
Within commotion
No more fears
No more sorrows
Only hope
For a better tomorrow
Yeah I’m the girl who saw her future
And jumped to meet it
Took a chance
And found hope
Had faith
And found light
Trusted in my heart
And found love
Love wasn’t sitting
In a crowded classroom
Nor was it wandering
Through an empty hall
Love was standing
Right beside me
Through it all
Yeah, I’m not the girl I was back then
Shy and timid
Afraid to break the trend
Time to break free
And loose myself
Yeah, that’s who I am now
Free at last
Free to dream
Free to sail the rugged sea
Breaking loose
Running fast
Not going to be
Held down by the past
Cause….
I’m the girl who saw her future
And jumped to meet it
Took a chance
And found hope
Had faith
And found light
Trusted in my heart
And found love

Dixie

My heart is embedded
Deep within the red rock
Leaving good old Dixie
Will never be a thought

Where the winters are warm
And the summer nights clear
Where the sun will shine hot
And clouds seldom shed a tear

The warm summer’s breeze
Finds a welcomed sigh of relief
When kids play in the sprinklers
And moms watch from the sink

The thunder clouds are gathering
Quick! Find that red camping chair!
Sit on the back porch next to dad
The summer lighting dance, is rare

Fall colors are slow to arrive
But they saved the best for last
Bold red’s, gold’s and browns
Like rare jewels, from the past

Winter weather is soon upon us
We’ll take to the old wood stove
Tellin’ stories about the ‘Wild West’
And teams of horses grandpa drove

Snow hangs on the red rock hills
Making them look a little surreal
With hints of red peaking through
The natural beauty is so very real

Then hugs and kisses, nighty night
Sleep well, sweet dreams, my dear
Arise the next morning to my surprise
Spring will suddenly, happily appear

With pastel pink and stark white petals
The blossoms soon will be in full bloom
Listen to the buzzing and the humming
Bee’s making honeycomb in their room

Yeah, My heart is embedded
Deep within the red rock
Leaving good old Dixie
Will never be a thought

Where the winters are warm
And the summer nights clear
Where the sun will shine hot
And clouds seldom shed a tear

Army Widow

Tonight I am the widow
Of an Army man
He went to war so bravely
To fight and save this land

I did my best to support him
In his goals and dreams
He saw a bright new future
For his family

The battle took his life
A man so brave and strong
Killed by the enemy
I wonder what went wrong

I look up at his picture
And weep so quietly
His son he’ll never hold
The birth is soon to be

Last night I had a dream
Of an Army man
A little boy he held
Gently in his hand

Peace beyond compare
Filtered through me then
I knew my son was safe
In his father’s hand
